The Clifton Chamber of Commerce is organizing the Big Buck Contest again this year, a long-time tradition for Bosque County residents and beyond. The event will award more than $4,000 in prizes. Every entry that registers will receive a free camouflage embroidered hunting cap. The entry fee costs $25. Those interested can register at the Clifton Chamber of Commerce, Clifton Feed & Service Center and Keith’s Ace Hardware. Residents from Bosque, Hill, Coryell, Erath, Hamilton, Johnson, McLennan and Somervell counties are allowed to compete in this contest. Hunters can travel to any of them in pursuit of the best buck they can find (and shoot). This is the largest Big Buck Contest in Central Texas.
Managed Land low-fence deer are eligible in this contest. The top three prizes are a Remington 220 Swift, a Ruger American All-Weather 308 and a Yeti Cooler.
The entry deadline for archery season is October 1, the MLD low-fence deadline is September 24, the youth season deadline is October 29, and November 5th for the general season. Deer are scored at Clifton Feed and Service, located at 203 E. 5th Street in Clifton.
