SAN ANTONIO — The 2024 Paris Olympics are set to kick off this Friday, and Texas will have a significant presence on Team USA.
With more than 60 athletes from the Lone Star State among the 600 competitors, Texas is well-represented.
This is a big deal, especially considering Team USA’s track record, boasting a total of 2,975 medals, according to source.
Some of the standout Texan athletes include big names like gymnast Simone Biles, WNBA star Brittney Griner, and golfer Scottie Scheffler.
But they aren’t the only ones aiming for gold in Paris. There are many others, including some with ties to San Antonio, who are ready to compete.

Natalia Vega Figueroa – Artistic Swimming
Natalia Vega Figueroa, a Puerto Rican athlete who attended the University of the Incarnate Word, is making waves in artistic swimming.
At 25, she follows in the footsteps of her father, a professional water polo player, and is set to compete for Olympic glory.
Emilio Garcia – Boxing
21-year-old Emilio Garcia from Laredo is gearing up for international competition after his participation in the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago. He’s young, but already making a mark in the boxing world.
Jennifer Lozano – Boxing
Another Laredo native, Jennifer Lozano, has been boxing since she was nine. Known as “The Troublemaker,” she’s looking to cause some trouble for her opponents in Paris.
Keith Sanderson – Shooting
Keith Sanderson, who grew up in San Antonio, will be competing in his fourth Olympic Games. A U.S. Army staff sergeant, Sanderson is hunting for his first medal in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol event.
Fred Kerley – Track & Field
Fred Kerley, a silver medalist from the 2020 Games, was born in San Antonio. He’s aiming to add more medals to his collection in the 100-meter dash and 4×100-meter relay.
