National Barbecue Cookoff in Meridian set for October 23rd Weekend This Year

The National Championship Barbecue cook is traditionally held the fourth Saturday in October in Meridian, Texas. This celebrated event hosts barbecue cookers with different meats from across Texas and the rest of America. This year, the annual celebration of barbecue comes together Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 22, 23, and 24.

The International Barbecue Cookers Association sanctions the event again this year, with new rules posted on their website as of July 1. This will be the 34th year the cookoff is held in Meridian. Bosque Bottoms typically fills with traffic in the form of trucks and trailers, and the event draws many from all over central Texas.

"We give out scholarships to students around Bosque county every year. The board decides year by year how many scholarships and the amount."

Kamree Nieuwenhuis of the NCBC Tweet
The board has existed as a nonprofit organization benefitting local students since it started. Recently, Chairman Byron Howard gave a check to Meridian Volunteer Fire Department as the local emergency service provider was was the 2021 beneficiary from the recent auction held in June.
