Construction on the Meridian Amphitheater continues, with progress on the site dig before rock is laid into the structure. More and more of the blueprint is completed by day. Amphitheaters are traditionally circular, as an arena-type view setting. Seats are placed in circular fashion for a full 360 degrees of viewing what happens in the center circle. The arena is sunk below the normal level of the ground, allowing for a viewing advantage by height. In a sense, amphitheaters were a precursor to Shakespeare’s globe theater, which became popular in his time. View the photos below to see how everything is coming along:
The project is part of the Master Park Plan as devised by community members, the Meridian Parks & Recreation Board of Directors, and supporters that have generously contributed to the amphitheater project. The plan was devised after receiving input from many. The amphitheater is more than halfway funded, though requires more contributions for the rest of the total $55,000 cost.
