ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A teen who admitted to opening fire on a family’s vehicle, tragically killing a mother in front of her young daughter, has been sentenced to ten years in prison.

According to the source, Ty Gallegos pled guilty to first-degree murder in May.

Back in March 2022, two teenage girls told Gallegos, Estevan Lucero, and Adam Sedillo that someone inside an SUV at the Maverick Gas Station on I-25 and Comanche had robbed them.

Acting on this information, the trio opened fire on the SUV.

The shooting resulted in the death of Kayla Montano, injuries to her fiancé, and severe trauma to her seven-year-old daughter.

Judge Courtney Weaks handed down the ten-year sentence to Gallegos as part of a plea agreement.
