15-year-old girl killed in head-on crash in Linn County

According to state police, a 15-year-old passenger in a vehicle that was in a head-on collision in Linn County on Monday afternoon passed away at a nearby hospital.

The collision happened at the junction of Highways 20 and 22 just after 3 p.m.

According to authorities, a Hyundai Accent traveling east was struck by a Toyota Highlander traveling west on Highway 20 that tried to turn left onto Highway 22.

According to state police, the fatal collision was caused by a dangerous turn made by the Toyota Highlander. For over two hours, both routes were closed to traffic as state police conducted their investigation.

According to authorities, the Hyundai’s driver, Maryssa E. Swiderski, 35, of Willamina, and her passenger, 15, were both taken to a nearby hospital. Later, the hospital declared the 15-year-old girl deceased. According to police, Swiderski’s condition was critical.

According to authorities, two further passengers in the Hyundai, a 15-year-old kid and a 17-year-old boy from Willamina, were transferred to a nearby hospital by ambulance after suffering significant injuries.

Two passengers and the Toyota’s driver, Victor Hernandez Triana of Springfield, were treated at a nearby hospital after reporting minor injuries. According to authorities, Maria Triana De Hernandez, a 51-year-old Springfield resident who was a passenger in the Toyota, was seriously hurt and transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Investigations into the fatal crash are still ongoing.
