On Thanksgiving Day, an accident in northeast Portland claimed the life of a second person.
Police confirmed last week that Patricia Esler, 75, passed away on Saturday as a result of her injuries sustained in the collision. Near northeast 13th Avenue and Lombard Street, she was the front passenger in a car that was struck head-on. Reports of the collision came just after 6 p.m.
Esler and the driver were in the same vehicle with 46-year-old Andrea Doering in the backseat. At the scene, Doering passed away. Serious injuries were also sustained by the driver.
The car who struck them has not been named by the police, but they say he was traveling west on Lombard Street when he crossed the center line and collided with them. According to a previous update, authorities stated that alcohol played a role in the collision and that he was hospitalized with significant injuries.
The police had stated that they planned to charge him.
According to the Portland Bureau of Transportation, Esler’s passing is the 56th traffic fatality in Portland this year. According to the bureau, 69 persons lost their lives in road accidents in the city last year, the most in at least thirty years.
