Driver Charged in Fatal Crash That Killed Harris County Deputy and Daughter

After a deadly collision at 6800 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) at approximately 3:05 a.m. on November 22, 2024, a 23-year-old male named Omar Jose Alvarado has been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter. After receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital, Alvarado was released on December 2 and taken to the Harris County Jail.

Alvarado’s gray Mazda 3 struck the victims’ white Chevrolet Impala, killing forty-six-year-old Harris County Precinct 5 Constable Deputy Katherine Hutson and her 8-year-old daughter, Kacey Hutson. When the collision happened, the deputy’s car exploded into flames because she had her emergency lights on while she was operating traffic control in the far-right lane of the freeway. At the scene, the mother and daughter were both declared dead.

A female passenger in Alvarado’s vehicle, age 25, was taken to a nearby hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

Alvarado was found to have been intoxicated at the time of the collision. While waiting to be discharged from the hospital, he was charged after being questioned on the spot.
