Driver Flees Scene of Fatal Pedestrian Crash, Apprehended at Airport

Deputies from Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to a fatal car-pedestrian collision near the junction of Brundage Drive and Airtex Boulevard in north Houston on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. An adult male biker was seriously hurt when a car struck him and drove away.

When deputies arrived, they discovered the man in critical condition laying on the road. As soon as paramedics came, they resumed the first assistance they had started, which included CPR. The man passed away at the site from his wounds in spite of their best attempts.

The suspect vehicle was found by constable deputies about a mile distant. After some research, they determined that the driver in the collision was Nyla Gamboaa, age 22. Gamboa was arrested at the Intercontinental Airport later that day while trying to board an out-of-state aircraft with the help of the Houston Police Department. Gamboa is charged with failing to stop and provide death-related aid.
