CARTERET, N.J. — A violent altercation near Port Authority turned deadly Wednesday morning, leaving one woman dead and another critically injured.
The incident took place on Roosevelt Avenue, where both victims were found with gunshot wounds in a driveway, according to Carteret officials and the news covered by nbcnewyork
Authorities responded swiftly, airlifting the women to nearby hospitals. Tragically, one of the victims succumbed to her injuries, while the other remains in critical condition.

The shooting prompted a lockdown at nearby Minue School as a precautionary measure and disrupted parts of Carteret’s business district.
Witnesses reported hearing approximately six gunshots around 9 a.m. One witness described seeing the suspect calmly walking away while concealing a firearm.

Law enforcement, including Carteret Police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, launched an immediate investigation.
A man in his 20s or 30s, seen in the vicinity of the shooting, was taken into custody later in the day. The suspect’s photo was shared by investigators to aid in the search.
Chopper 4 captured images of police and first responders combing the area for evidence, with K-9 units assisting in the search.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Carteret Police Department or the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
