As a member of the Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force, investigators from the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office detained Christopher Knippers, 43, of Alvin, Texas, on charges of first-degree felony theft of property worth more than $300,000.
The task team started the investigation in May 2024 after receiving a tip that indicated Knippers was operating an illicit chop shop out of his Alvin home under the moniker South East Diesel and Performance.
During the execution of a search warrant on the property, multiple stolen car components totaling an estimated $320,868.58 were found. Additionally, a number of stolen cars with fake or altered VINs might be found. Numerous of these cars had been reported stolen in different states.
After the Brazoria County Grand Jury indicted Knippers, he was taken to the Brazoria County Jail and is currently being held on a $75,000 bail.
In Galveston, Brazoria, and Matagorda counties, the state-funded Gulf Coast Auto cases Task Force looks into cases involving auto theft. The enterprise was discovered thanks in large part to an anonymous tip from a worried citizen, underscoring the need of community engagement in the fight against organized crime.
The League City Police Department, La Marque Police Department, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, and Galveston County Sheriff’s Office were all praised by the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this investigation.
