Quarterback for OregonIt is unlikely that Dillon Gabriel will win the Heisman Trophy in 2024. Gabriel defied expectations, however, when NBC Sports’ Dan Patrick asked him on Friday to choose a contestant other than himself to win the prize.
In a lengthy discussion on his radio show, Gabriel told Patrick, “I’m going to get some heat for this one, but I’m going to say Ashton Jeanty.” Having been in the Group of Five once, I am aware of the difficulties that accompany it. I played against Ashton this year, of course, and he’s a gifted guy. His tale is distinct, and his accomplishments have been rather remarkable.
This season, Jeanty has run for Boise State 2,497 yards and 29 touchdowns in 13 games, including 192 yards and three scores against Oregon in Week 2. However, he is predicted to fall behind two-way Colorado sensation Travis Hunter in the Heisman vote.
At +25000, Gabriel is far behind Hunter (-2500) and Jeanty (+1000) in Heisman odds, according to BetMGM. However, Patrick was informed by the Oregon signal-caller that he intends to wear a striking costume for the ceremony in New York.
Gabriel declared, “I’m (going to) style it up a little bit.” I believe I’ll surprise a few people. I won’t overhype it, but I’ll make sure it does what it does, at least in terms of style.
ESPN will broadcast the 2024 Heisman Trophy ceremony on Saturday at 5 p.m. PT.
