Downed power line sparks fires, shocks three firefighters and another person in Vancouver

On Friday, a downed electricity line in Vancouver shocked a person on the ground and three firefighters who hurried to assist by setting an RV on fire and igniting a fire in a neighboring residence.

The Vancouver Fire Department stated in a statement that when firefighters arrived to the incident at 616 Ash St. just after 9 p.m., they discovered a flaming RV, multiple small fires on the ground, and an injured person who was unable to move and was phoning for assistance.

As three firefighters attempted to approach and treat the injured victim, the electricity from the live power line jolted them as it passed through the ground and surrounding buildings, according to officials.

According to officials, the seriously injured person was successfully transported to an ambulance by the firefighting squad so they could be taken to a hospital.

The injured person’s present condition has not been disclosed by officials.

According to officials, firefighters were able to extinguish the fires, including the RV fire and the fire in a nearby house, when the power company that was in charge of the downed line turned off electricity to the entire neighborhood.

Two of the three frightened firefighters were released from the hospital after being escorted there, while the third was detained overnight, according to officials.

According to officials, the event is being looked into by the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office.
