Harris County Deputy Constable and Daughter Killed in Drunk Driving Crash on I-10

Harris County Deputy Constable Katherine Hutson and her little daughter were sadly killed on Friday, November 29, 2024, at around 3:20 a.m., when a drunk motorist struck their patrol car on I-10 between Washington Avenue and I-610.

A car driven by Omar Jose Alvarado, 23, rear-ended Deputy Hutson’s police car, which was parked on the shoulder while she was directing traffic for a road construction convoy. The collision resulted in the burning of a Texas Department of Transportation truck and the patrol car. Sadly, Deputy Hutson was killed along with her daughter.

At the time of the crash, Hutson was off-duty working on a traffic-improvement project. Being a single parent, she brought her kid along.

The motorist who caused the collision, Alvarado, was taken into custody and accused of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication manslaughter of a peace officer.

Her son and parents survive Deputy Hutson, who spent eighteen years in the Civil Division of the Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 5.
