Crystal Beach, Texas — A quick response from a deputy and a doctor saved a gunshot victim’s life early on May 19, 2024.
Deputy Sitton of the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call near Crystal Beach Road. Upon arrival, he found a victim with a gunshot wound to the upper right chest.
Sitton acted swiftly, grabbing his medical bag to apply a dressing to the wound and stop the bleeding.
He managed the scene, instructing bystanders on how to help, and continued first aid for over two minutes until EMS arrived.
According to the source, even as EMS took over, Sitton stayed on hand, assisting for another two minutes until he was relieved.
Dr. E. Santos also arrived, lending a hand to EMS and joining the victim in the ambulance to continue life-saving efforts.
Dr. Santos remained with the victim as he was transported to the triage tent, where he assisted other doctors.
Thanks to the prompt actions of Deputy Sitton and Dr. Santos, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office reports that the victim is expected to survive his injury.
