High school teacher arrested on allegations of sexual misconduct with a student

According to authorities, a high school teacher from Vancouver Public Schools was taken into custody on Friday after allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old pupil in 2013.

At Hudson’s Bay High School, Shadbreon Gatson, 43, teaches.

About three weeks after the now-adult victim reported the alleged abuse to her former school, he was taken into custody on a single charge of sexual misconduct with a minor, according to Vancouver Police Department spokesman Kathy McNicholas.

According to a copy of the letter provided by a district spokesperson, Principal Val Seeley and District Superintendent Jeff Snell jointly sent an email to the Hudson’s Bay community stating that the school district placed Gatson on administrative leave while it assisted with a law enforcement investigation into allegations of inappropriate behavior.

According to McNicholas, the police department is looking through high school records that suggest a janitor may have approached the teacher and the student during an abuse event, but it does not have any complaints from the period of the alleged sexual misbehavior.

According to McNicholas, the police department should be contacted by any more victims or witnesses to abuse.
