High wind warning affecting North Oregon Coast Range until Thursday morning

At 1:46 a.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a strong wind warning for the North Oregon Coast Range, which was in force until 10 a.m.

“South to southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts 50 to 65 mph early this morning, will become southwest to west after 5 am,” the weather agency writes. Today’s strongest winds are expected to occur between 4 and 9 am, mostly above 1000 feet. The low valleys that are more exposed can get gusts of up to 45 mph.

Damaged winds have the potential to topple electrical wires and trees. There will likely be some power outages. The weather agency warns that travel will be challenging, particularly for well-known automobiles. “People should stay indoors away from trees and branches and in wooded areas. Avoid windows during the windstorm and try to stay in the lower floors of your house. If you have to drive, drive carefully. Driving in such severe winds can be challenging, particularly for cars with a prominent profile. Be especially careful.
