La Salle Prep tennis champion Kennedy Harris commits to Portland

A local celebrity is joining the Portland Pilots women’s tennis team, and she will bring some big hardware with her.

Kennedy Harris of La Salle Prep declared her commitment to the University of Portland on social media on Friday afternoon.

Kennedy Harris (@neddyhke) shared this post.

Harris is a three-time Oregon Class 5A tennis state champion going into her senior year. She has contributed to the Falcons’ three straight state tournament runner-up finishes.

Harris has defeated Emily Gu of Crescent Valley in the finals for the past two years. She won 7-5, 6-1 last spring and 6-4, 6-2 in 2023.

In her freshman year, she defeated Sophie Katz of Crescent Valley 6-1, 6-0 to win the 2022 state championship. For the past three years, Harris has received the top seed in the Class 5A girls singles state final bracket.

Harris would become just the tenth Oregonian to win four girls tennis titles if she were to win the state tournament this year.
