Authorities have confirmed that Rudy Farias, who is now 25 years old, has been found and is currently recovering in the hospital after being missing for eight years in northwest Houston.
According to his mother, someone called 911 after discovering him outside a church, unresponsive and in need of medical attention.
Photographs shared by his mother show him lying in a hospital bed, revealing cuts and bruises all over his body and blood in his hair, leading her to believe that he was subjected to severe abuse.
Rudy Farias was 17 years old when he disappeared on March 6, 2015, while walking his two dogs near Tidwell and Park Drive. His family reported him missing after his dogs were found, but there was no sign of Farias.
At the time, it was reported that he had been diagnosed with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and anxiety. Texas EquuSearch, an organization dedicated to locating missing individuals, sought public assistance in finding Farias, mentioning that he may have been disoriented and had not been taking his medication.
The search for Farias was temporarily halted on March 10, 2015, as authorities gathered more information. However, two days later, on March 12, the search resumed and continued until the following day. On March 13, 2015, authorities expressed gratitude to the searchers who braved the rain-soaked fields in their efforts to locate Farias.
Finally, on Sunday, July 2, 2023, authorities confirmed that Farias had been found safe. However, his mother mentioned that he has been uncommunicative, speaking only a few words and often assuming a fetal position. She acknowledged that the road to recovery would be lengthy but expressed her gratitude for her son being found alive.
