The Domain, Arbor Walk, Gateway, and Arboretum Shopping Centers in North Austin were the targets of a shoplifting blitz on Friday, November 22, 2024, by the Austin Police Department’s (APD) North Metro Tactical Response Unit and North Criminal Investigation Department, working with about 20 local retail representatives. By addressing suspected shoplifting cases, the initiative sought to assist retailers.
Marshall’s Loss Prevention reported that two individuals were involved in organized retail theft within the shop at around 3:15 p.m. The suspects were observed hiding stolen goods including wallets and footwear in their clothes and taking off anti-theft security gadgets.
The offenders were caught as they left the store with the stolen goods by the prompt response of the local officers. The suspects were found in possession of equipment used to remove the security systems and $312.61 worth of stolen goods.
Three reusable shopping bags full of stolen goods, including shoes and wallets with tags from Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, and Ross Department Stores, were found in the suspect’s car after more inquiry. The total value of the recovered goods from all three businesses was almost $1,000, including the $548.79 worth of stolen goods from the car.
Omar Cuellar Sanchez, 43, and Dailena Rodriguez Herrera, 27, were named as the suspects. Both were taken into custody and accused of Class B theft.
