The Portland Trail Blazers announced Thursday that coach Chauncey Billups will miss the next two games to spend time with his family after his grandmother passed away.
Ninety was Mattie Billups’ age.
When Billups gave his Hall of Fame induction speech in October, he acknowledged his grandma. He gave her remarks credit for motivating him to achieve. According to Billups, his grandmother wished for the family name to be associated with excellence.
According to Billups, she frequently expressed her desire for someone to enter our family and alter the perception and respect of our name. And I was able to establish the name globally because of the game of basketball. And for that, I am incredibly appreciative.
Until Billups returns, assistant coach Nate Bjorkgen will be the head coach.
The Blazers will play the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday after hosting the Utah Jazz on Thursday.
Billups might make a comeback for the game against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night.
