Update: High surf advisory issued for Oregon until early Friday evening

The National Weather Service revised its high surf advisory for Oregon’s Central Coast, Tillamook County Coast, and Clatsop County Coast on Thursday at 3:04 a.m., and it will remain in effect until Friday at 4 p.m.

“Hazardous surf conditions and large waves,” the meteorological agency adds. Breakers that are 25 to 30 feet long.

“Unexpectedly, destructive waves might sweep over jetties, beaches, and other infrastructure. While watching heavy surf, people can get washed off rocks and jetties and drown. Buildings and properties along the seaside may sustain minor beach erosion. The weather service says, “Beaches and low-lying shoreline are expected to experience higher than normal water run-up.” “When there is a high surf advisory, beaches will be impacted by rip currents, sneaker waves, and beach erosion. Keep a considerable distance from the water’s edge and keep an eye out for particularly large waves. Avoid going near big logs on the beach. Logs can be readily lifted or rolled by water running up on the beach, which might kill or seriously hurt anyone in their path.
