Update: Hydrologic outlook issued for Oregon

The Central Coast of Oregon, the Tillamook County Coast, the North Oregon Coast Range Lowlands, the Central Oregon Coast Range Lowlands, the West Central Willamette Valley, the East Central Willamette Valley, the Benton County Lowlands, the Linn County Lowlands, the Lane County Lowlands, the Marion and Linn counties’ Cascade Foothills, the Lane County Cascade Foothills, the Marion and Linn counties’ Cascades, and the Cascades of Lane County were all included in the updated hydrologic outlook, which was released at 2:35 a.m. on Saturday.

“Over the course of the weekend, a number of storm systems will keep bringing a wet weather pattern to northwest Oregon. Until at least December 30th, this will cause rivers and creeks to swell. The Luckiamute River was just above minor flood stage as of 2 a.m. on December 28. It is expected to be at or slightly above minor flood stage through Saturday afternoon before dropping below flood stage on Saturday night, December 28. River levels will continue to increase, although other rivers in northwest Oregon stayed below the moderate flood stage. The Pudding River in Aurora has a 40% risk of reaching minor flood stage on or around December 30th due to the rising river levels. Furthermore, the Wilson, Marys, Mohawk, and Siletz rivers have a 15–25% risk of reaching moderate flood level. There is a 35% probability that the Siuslaw River will see modest flooding. Particularly in low-lying locations or other places with inadequate drainage, heavy rainfall can also cause ponding of water, widespread lowland flooding, and localized urban floods. Additionally, heavy rainfall may raise the risk of debris flows over areas scorched by wildfires in recent years and landslides in high terrain, according to the National Weather Service.
