“Over the course of the weekend, a number of storm systems will keep bringing a wet weather pattern to northwest Oregon. Until at least December 30th, this will cause rivers and creeks to swell. The Luckiamute River has crested and climbed barely above the minor flood mark as of this writing. This evening, it will remain below the flood stage. Rivers will continue to rise as the next system arrives on Sunday, and some rivers will become more confident about their capacity to flood. Within the next three days, there is a 20% risk that the Luckiamute River may rise to minor flood stage once more, and a 35% probability that the Pudding River at Aurora will do the same. We continue to monitor other nearby rivers. Other rivers in the area will rise if this incoming system performs too well. Particularly in low-lying locations or other places with inadequate drainage, heavy rainfall can also cause ponding of water, widespread lowland flooding, and localized urban floods. Additionally, heavy rainfall may raise the risk of debris flows over areas scorched by wildfires in recent years and landslides in high terrain, according to the National Weather Service.
