A 70-year-old man from California is missing after he ventured onto the Rubicon Trail. Warren Elliott was last seen on Friday while helping with trail maintenance for the upcoming Jeep Jamboree.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office reported that Elliott had arrived at the location as a passenger in his son’s Jeep.
According to the source, he then walked away from the vehicle while work was underway.
Described as a devoted “Jeeper,” Elliott was wearing a blue denim short-sleeved shirt and blue denim shorts at the time of his disappearance.
Rubicon Trail: A Challenging Terrain
The Rubicon Trail stretches 22 miles from Georgetown to Lake Tahoe, with elevations ranging from 5,400 to over 7,000 feet.
Known as the “crown jewel of all off-highway trails,” it has a reputation for being extremely challenging.
Previously rated 10 out of 10 in difficulty, the trail is famous for its narrow passages, rocky climbs, and occasional mud holes.
Search Efforts Underway
Given the tough conditions, a large-scale search effort was launched.
On Sunday, 100 searchers from nine Northern California agencies, along with the National Guard and a Blackhawk Helicopter, scoured the area but found no sign of Elliott.

The search continued into Monday, focusing on the Rubicon Springs area.
The sheriff’s office began the day with a briefing for the search teams. Both California and Nevada National Guard Blackhawk helicopters were used to transport the searchers to the area.
