DENVER – San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin had a surprising exit from Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. In a rare twist, Melvin was ejected before the game even began.
Melvin was shown the door immediately after he and bench coach Ryan Christenson handed the lineup card to plate umpire Alex MacKay.
According to the source, this pre-game ejection is almost unheard of in baseball.
“I just talked too much,” Melvin said after watching his team win 3-2. “Umpiring’s a hard job, I’m aware of that, just probably said too much. I didn’t plan that, it wasn’t choreographed. I probably went too far.”
The Giants were looking to bounce back from a 4-3 loss to the Rockies the previous night, following a 7-3 defeat on Friday.

Despite the odd situation, the Giants managed to secure a victory.
