ATLANTA — Chanell Crosby, the mother of a 13-year-old boy who was tragically shot and killed in DeKalb County in 2022, has been found dead in Atlanta.
The grim discovery was reported by the boy’s father and local authorities on Friday.
On Thursday night, Atlanta Police issued a missing person report for 35-year-old Chanell Crosby. Her family last saw her between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. on July 14.
Investigations suggested she might have been in the Macon area, but the situation took a tragic turn the following day.
While speaking with 11Alive‘s Cody Alcorn, Chanell’s father, Don Wilson, revealed he received a distressing call from the police informing him that Chanell’s body had been discovered.
MARTA Police reported that an officer was alerted to a car emitting a foul odor around 2 p.m. near the West End MARTA station.
Upon inspection, the officer found Chanell’s body in the back seat of the vehicle, located approximately nine miles from her home.
The Atlanta Police Department confirmed the discovery of Chanell’s body and announced they would lead the investigation. The family has since initiated an online fundraiser to assist with burial expenses.
Chanell’s death is a devastating blow, coming less than two years after the tragic killing of her son, 13-year-old Jamiren Crosby.
Jamiren was found dead behind a townhome on Parkway Trail in Lithonia on September 19, 2022. His death was ruled a homicide, and there have been no arrests in his case to date.
11Alive’s Kaitlyn Ross had previously spoken to Chanell following her son’s death.
Chanell shared a touching memory of when Jamiren invited her to his fifth-grade dance, a moment she cherished as her first chance to wear a prom dress.
Tragically, Chanell’s family had already suffered another immense loss earlier that year.

On April 20, 2022, Chanell’s brother, Darrio “Polo” Giles, was found shot and killed inside the Seven Court Apartments on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW.
Polo had recently won about $4,000 on a slot machine, and his family believes the killing was motivated by the money, which was missing when he was found.
