AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police have reported a tragic incident in southeast Austin where one person has died and another has been detained.

According to the source, the event, involving both a shooting and a stabbing, happened near the 2100 block of Burton Drive.

The police were alerted via a 911 call around 10:30 a.m. on the day of the incident. The caller reported a disturbance in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the area.

Upon arriving, officers found a Hispanic man in his 20s in the parking lot, suffering from severe injuries. Despite efforts to save him, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives are investigating this case. According to the Austin Police Department, this incident marks the 36th homicide in Austin for the year 2024.
