A murder trial in Albuquerque took an unexpected turn when Diamond Salazar, one of the suspects involved, pleaded guilty.
The case revolves around a tragic shooting at a Maverik gas station near Interstate 25, which took place in March 2022.
According to the source, Salazar admitted to second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The incident led to the death of 28-year-old Kayla Montaño, who was inside a vehicle when shots were fired.
Albuquerque police confirmed that Montaño and the driver were both targeted in what turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.

Salazar now faces up to 24 years in prison for her role in this heartbreaking event.
Other teenagers involved in the crime have also pleaded guilty, as stated by Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman.
