Delegates Begin Voting to Nominate Kamala Harris: What to Expect Next

On Thursday, the election process took a significant turn as Democratic delegates in Georgia and across the U.S. began casting their votes to nominate Vice President Kamala Harris for President.

This shift follows President Joe Biden’s decision to step aside, allowing Harris to emerge as the Democratic frontrunner.

At the Georgia State Capitol, Channel 2’s Richard Elliot spoke with Democratic State Senator Gloria Butler and State Representative Billy Mitchell from Stone Mountain, both of whom are enthusiastic about Harris’s candidacy.

Mitchell acknowledged the unique circumstances, stating, “Unusual times call for unusual methods.”

According to the source, he highlighted the need for delegates who initially supported Biden to now vote for Harris. Ballots for this pivotal process were distributed on Thursday.

Next week, Harris is set to return to Georgia, accompanied by a yet-to-be-revealed running mate. The political spotlight is on Georgia as Harris and former President Donald Trump make notable appearances in the state.

In a recent rally, Harris took a stand against Trump while acknowledging the challenges ahead. Additionally, Megan Thee Stallion will join Harris at an Atlanta rally on Tuesday, further energizing the campaign.

Mitchell clarified the voting options for delegates. “We could choose Kamala Harris or nominate someone else,” he explained.

Having already cast his vote for Harris, Mitchell is confident that she will secure the official nomination by the end of the voting period on August 9.

Butler, the state Senate Minority Leader and a Georgia delegate, shared her excitement about being involved in this historic moment.

She noted that, although not all delegates were originally Biden supporters, there is now unanimous backing for Harris among Georgia delegates.
