Fun Facts About Sullivan Street Bakery

Jim Lahey, with the help of Joe Allen, opened Sullivan Street Bakery in Soho in 1994. The main bakery is now located in Hell’s Kitchen, with other locations in Chelsea and Miami, Florida.

Lahey’s belief was that “good bread should be available and affordable for everyone.”

Originally aspiring to be a sculptor, Lahey’s travels through Italy as an art student inspired him to bake bread. He couldn’t find bread in New York like the beautiful, crusty loaves he ate in Italy.
