TEXAS CITY, Texas — Texas City is currently facing a significant weather event as emergency management officials have issued a warning to residents.
Due to intense rainfall, many roadways have become flooded, making travel hazardous. The advice from authorities is clear: stay off the roads until conditions improve.
The area has experienced between three to six inches of rain as of Friday morning, causing widespread disruption.
In an alert, officials emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “We are experiencing numerous flooded roadways and flooded vehicles. Please stay off of the roads until the water recedes.”
As a precaution, all Texas City buildings and facilities will remain closed until noon. The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for Central Galveston County shortly after 5 a.m.
This warning followed the onset of heavy rains, which quickly led to dangerous conditions.
According to the source, several high-water spots have been reported throughout the region.
One significant area of concern is on the Gulf Freeway heading north near Holland, where traffic has slowed to a crawl due to the water accumulation.
The Dickinson Bayou, located near the Gulf Freeway and Old Bayou Road, has overflowed its banks, flooding backyards, business parking lots, and neighborhood streets.
The heavy rainfall has not only affected major roads but also feeder roads in the area. Many drivers found themselves stranded, with some needing to be towed to safety.
