SAN FRANCISCO – California Governor Gavin Newsom has officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential race, effectively removing himself from consideration. In a tweet on Sunday, Newsom praised Harris as “tough, fearless, and tenacious,” emphasizing that she is the best choice to lead the country in a “healthier” direction.
Newsom highlighted Harris’s ability to combat former President Donald Trump’s vision, calling her the ideal candidate to protect democracy and secure a better future for America.
“With our democracy at stake and our future on the line, no one is better to prosecute the case against Donald Trump’s dark vision and guide our country in a healthier direction than America’s Vice President, Kamala Harris,” Newsom stated.
According to the source, Joe Biden, after announcing his decision to step down from the 2024 race, endorsed Harris as his successor.
This move aligns with the Biden-Harris Administration’s focus on diversity and inclusion, marking Harris as the first female, Black, and Asian Vice President in U.S. history.
A Strong Alliance
Newsom and Harris have a longstanding relationship, having worked closely when Harris was San Francisco’s District Attorney and Newsom was the city’s mayor.
Their collaboration began in 2003 when Harris was elected as District Attorney and continued through her tenure as the State Attorney General, a role she held from 2010 to 2014.
