Governor Abbott Mobilizes Texas for Flash Flooding: Stay Safe and Informed

Governor Greg Abbott has taken action to prepare Texas for potential flash flooding as severe storms sweep through the state.

In response to the anticipated heavy rainfall, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) has been instructed to mobilize state emergency resources.

“As storms with heavy rainfall move across our state, communities in East Texas and the Coastal Bend are urged to remain weather-aware and be mindful of flash flood risks,” stated Governor Abbott.

“Today, I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate state emergency response resources to support local officials with flood response operations.

The State of Texas stands ready to help protect Texans and communities across the state as severe storms bring heavy rainfall and flash flooding threats. Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”

The National Weather Service predicts multiple rounds of heavy rainfall from today through the weekend, significantly raising the risk of flash flooding in the southern half of Texas.

River flooding is also expected in East and Southeast Texas, with threats potentially extending towards the Coastal Bend by mid-week.

According to the source, to support local flood response operations, Governor Abbott has activated specific emergency response resources.

This includes swift water boat squads from the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (Texas A&M Task Force 1) and game wardens and boat squads from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Additional resources have been placed on standby, including tactical marine units from the Texas Department of Public Safety and Texas Highway Patrol helicopters equipped with hoist capability.

These measures are to ensure rapid response to any severe weather incidents.

Texans are urged to take precautions for their safety by staying updated with local forecasts, preparing an emergency go-kit, and following instructions from local authorities.
