ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A devastating crash in northeast Albuquerque last October has been linked to alleged street racing, according to police. Recently obtained video footage reveals the chaotic scene as it happened.

In the tragic accident, two volleyball players were severely injured, and one of their mothers lost her life. One driver now faces charges and awaits trial for reckless driving and homicide by vehicle.

Body camera footage captured an off-duty firefighter explaining the situation to the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) after three cars collided at the intersection of Louisiana and Dellwood.

According to the source, tragically, two of the drivers did not survive the crash.

The third driver, Andy Doreste-Saumell, is now charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle and other offenses.

He told officers that a white Camry pulled out in front of his BMW and a Mini Cooper. Doreste-Saumell admitted to going slightly over the speed limit but denied racing.

However, dash camera footage from a trailing car told a different story. Additionally, a nearby homeowner provided surveillance video showing the moment of impact.

Doreste-Saumell had his girlfriend and his 6-year-old son with him in the car. Fortunately, none of them were injured, even though their vehicle spun into a nearby brick wall.

The Mini Cooper, which was allegedly racing with Doreste-Saumell, flipped over and landed on its roof.

The driver of the Mini Cooper, identified as Tyler Turnbull, died at the scene. His passenger sustained severe injuries. Inside the Camry, there were three occupants.
