A juvenile male tragically lost his life in a suspected accidental shooting early Monday morning, July 1st, 2024, at the St. James Apartment complex in southwest Houston. The Houston Police Department (HPD) is currently investigating the incident.
According to official sources hoodline preliminary reports, three teenagers were alone in an apartment around 2:30 am when a firearm they were handling discharged. The projectile struck one of the boys, believed to be 14 or 15 years old, in the abdomen, resulting in his death at the scene.
HPD Lieutenant T. Riley provided details to the media, stating that the teenager residing in the apartment, allegedly in possession of the gun at the time of the incident, fled the scene with the weapon.
“The remaining witness stayed behind and promptly contacted the authorities,” Lt. Riley elaborated.

Authorities were able to locate and apprehend the remaining teenager shortly after the incident. The HPD Homicide Division is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
This includes determining the relationship between the teenagers and how they obtained the firearm. A decision on potential charges will be made upon completion of the investigation.
The identities of all parties involved are being withheld by HPD pending notification of next of kin. This tragic event underscores the critical importance of responsible gun ownership and secure firearm storage, particularly when minors are present.
