The incident happened in Orange County around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, on Lake Region Boulevard in Chester.
According to Chief Daniel Doellinger of the Chester Police, officers responded to a report of a man covered in blood on the rear deck of a house on Lake Region Boulevard.
Upon arrival, officers, with the help of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Village of Monroe Police, performed lifesaving measures on the victim, who had a chest wound, Doellinger said.
The 43-year-old victim was taken to Garnet Regional Medical Center in Middletown, where he had surgery to fix the stab wound.
According to the source, he is currently in critical condition.
An investigation, with help from the State Police and their Forensic Identification Unit, revealed the victim had been in an argument with his son at their home, the chief said.
The victim was injured during the argument and ran from his home, seeking help from neighbors. He was found by officers behind a house across the street from where he lives.

Jayden Rivers, 18, of Chester, was immediately found and detained at his home. He was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, a felony.
He was arraigned in the City of Middletown Court and sent to Orange County Jail with a $250K cash bail or $500K secured bond.
