A troubling report has emerged from DeSoto, Texas, revealing that the local police department is grappling with a significant loss of guns and drugs from their evidence room.
This news surfaced while I was traveling back from a family vacation in Branson, Missouri, passing through the Dallas suburb of DeSoto along Interstate 35E.
According to a CBS News Texas report, a former evidence clerk, Carl Edmison, has been arrested in connection with the missing items.
This arrest occurred nearly two years after the issue was first reported and after Edmison had been employed by another city’s police force within the Dallas and Fort Worth Metro area.
A comprehensive audit of the DeSoto evidence room uncovered that over 3,000 items had been destroyed without proper documentation.
Additionally, 1,200 items were unaccounted for, leading to the dismissal of several criminal cases due to a lack of evidence.
These findings highlighted serious mismanagement during Edmison’s tenure, which lasted until 2022.
Despite these alarming issues, the DeSoto police had previously provided Edmison with a glowing letter of recommendation.
This allowed him to secure a position in a similar role with the Midlothian Police Department.
The DeSoto Police Department later notified Midlothian PD about their audit concerns, but Edmison was placed on nearly a year of paid leave before eventually being dismissed.

In the spring of 2024, further investigation led to Edmison’s arrest for possessing items that had been stored in the DeSoto Police Department’s evidence room.
This incident has raised serious questions about the management and oversight of evidence within the department.
