A 16-year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot while defending his mother during a carjacking in Deer Park, Texas.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on the 8000 block of Spencer Highway, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.

The attacker demanded the car as the woman was leaving work, and when her son intervened to protect her, he was shot in the chest.

After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene, leading police on a high-speed chase. According to ABC13, the pursuit involved both Houston police and Harris County Precinct 8 constable deputies.

The chase turned dangerous when the suspect drove the wrong way on a highway, managing to evade authorities temporarily.

The suspect was later spotted on I-610, where another chase ensued. Dashcam footage from an ABC13 photojournalist showed the suspect’s silver car nearly colliding with their vehicle.

The chase ended abruptly in southwest Houston at the 5800 block of Creekbend Drive.

The suspect lost control of the vehicle, crashing into two parked cars, and pushing one into a garage. Fortunately, no one in the house was injured, despite the property damage. Lt. J.P. Horelica told ABC13, “This ended the best possible way it could have after the incident.

The only thing that could make it better is if the kid gets better and turns out fine.”

According to the source, the injured teen was airlifted to the hospital by Life Flight and is currently in serious or critical condition.
