For the third straight year, a team from the Lone Star State is headed to South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The Boerne Little Leaguers earned their spot in the Little League World Series on Tuesday night, making them the third consecutive Texas team to advance from the Southwest Region.
Boerne defeated Louisiana’s Greater New Orleans Little League squad 6-3, finishing an undefeated run through the regional tournament.
According to the source, The Texas West champions, hailing from just outside San Antonio, won their four games by a combined score of 22-8.
However, they faced some challenges with a trip to the Little League World Series on the line.
Louisiana held a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning when Boerne’s offense exploded, scoring all six of their runs in that inning.
Caden Guffey and Kole Newson hit RBI singles to get their team on the board, and Doc Mogford hit a go-ahead grand slam, making it a 6-3 game.
Mogford also closed out the game on the mound, following 5 1/3 impressive innings from starting pitcher Julian Hurst, who struck out 10 batters and allowed just one earned run on three hits. Hurst was credited with the win.
