HOUSTON — Tragedy struck in north Houston when a woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle involved in a police chase on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. as the 55-year-old woman was waiting for a bus along the North Freeway near West Road. She was fatally hit by the vehicle being pursued by police.
The chase began when officers attempted to arrest Joseph Jebbia, 43, at a gas station nearby. Jebbia, a known career criminal with a violent history, was wanted for aggravated assault.
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Scott Spencer stated, “A wanted career criminal’s reckless actions resulted in the tragic death of a pedestrian waiting on a bus.”
According to the source, he added that Jebbia’s past includes numerous violent offenses.
As the police pursued Jebbia, he ran a red light at West Road, collided with another vehicle, and then struck the woman at the bus stop, killing her instantly.
“This incident is a heartbreaking reminder to cherish your loved ones,” Spencer said.
“The victim was just going about her day, and now her life has been taken by someone who shows no regard for others.”
After hitting the woman, Jebbia continued fleeing until he crashed again at Millwood and 249, where police arrested him.
