On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley posted a video showing the aftermath of the killing of Thomas Crooks, the shooter who targeted former President Donald Trump.
The video, shared on X, captures the scene with law enforcement agents on a rooftop near Crooks’ body.
The incident occurred on July 13 during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was speaking. Crooks fired at Trump, hitting him in the ear. The shooter also killed one person and injured two others before being shot and killed himself.
In the video posted by Grassley, a body camera records the aftermath, including Crooks’ body on the roof and blood near him.
Law enforcement officers in the video are seen discussing the situation, with one officer pointing to a rifle lying on the roof. It’s unclear if the rifle belonged to Crooks.
Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, demanded answers and accountability on X, stating, “We NEED detailed answers ASAP on security failures. TRANSPARENCY BRINGS ACCOUNTABILITY.”
The video also features a person in a black suit and sunglasses conversing with armed law enforcement officers.
There is mention of a sniper who observed someone arriving on a bike and placing a backpack but lost sight of the individual. It’s uncertain if this person is Crooks.
Grassley obtained the video from the Beaver County Emergency Services Unit after making requests to Congress.
This unit is part of the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office, known for handling high-risk situations. The Sheriff’s Office had not responded to comment requests by Tuesday night.
Both Democratic and Republican lawmakers are calling for an explanation of how Crooks was able to attack Trump.
The Department of Homeland Security Office of the Inspector General has opened three reviews into the incident.
On Tuesday, U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned, taking full responsibility for the security lapse.
She stated in her resignation letter that the Secret Service is committed to fully understanding the events surrounding the assassination attempt and ensuring such incidents are prevented in the future.
According to the source, the motive behind Crooks’ attack remains unknown.
Pennsylvania State Police Colonel Christopher Paris revealed at a House Homeland Security Committee hearing that Crooks was identified as suspicious before the shooting.

Crooks had been observed acting unusually and was seen with a range finder, but he was not considered an immediate threat until moments before he opened fire.
Following the attack, Trump, now the Republican nominee for president, plans to shift his rallies indoors instead of holding them outdoors, according to sources familiar with his campaign.
