HOUSTON, Texas — Authorities are investigating the tragic death of a 12-year-old girl found in a creek on the city’s north side Monday morning.
The Houston Police Department (HPD) and Mayor John Whitmire held a press conference, revealing that the girl likely sneaked out of her home around 10 p.m. Sunday night. She was not reported missing.
The young victim’s body was discovered at approximately 6 a.m. in a creek located in the 400 block of West Rankin Road. “Someone has taken one of our innocent children,” acting police chief Larry Satterwhite lamented during the press conference.

Mayor Whitmire expressed his outrage over the crime, stating, “It makes me angry that we have dangerous criminals on the streets of Houston.” HPD is reviewing surveillance footage and following leads, strongly suspecting foul play in the girl’s death.
While the police have refrained from commenting on the condition of the girl’s body, the medical examiner’s office is working on officially identifying the victim.

Both Chief Satterwhite and Mayor Whitmire have already spoken to the girl’s mother, who is understandably devastated by the loss.
“This little girl is gone, and her family is in immense pain,” Satterwhite said, emphasizing the community’s need for answers and justice.
