WACO, Texas – Testimony will recommence on Wednesday morning in the murder trial of Courtney O’Neil Washington, who is charged with the shooting death of a man in July 2020.
The trial of Washington, 29, is taking place in Waco’s 19th State District Court. The incident occurred at an apartment located in the 2600 block of Sanger Avenue, where Larry Donell Bryant, 50, was fatally shot.
Based on an arrest affidavit, Waco police discovered Bryant’s body inside a garage apartment. He had sustained at least one gunshot wound to the torso.
On Tuesday, prosecutors Will Hix and Kristen Duron, along with defense attorney Sandy Gately, selected a jury to hear the case. The prosecution presented their testimony, beginning with a Waco police officer.
The arrest affidavit states that investigators interviewed two witnesses who described the shooter as a man with long dreadlocks. Both witnesses identified Washington, also known as “Cash,” as the individual who entered the apartment and shot Bryant while he was seated on the floor, according to the police report.
Washington is currently incarcerated with a bail set at $250,000. If convicted of murder, he could face a sentence ranging from five to 99 years in prison or potentially life imprisonment.
