Suspicious Los Lunas House Fire Claims Two Lives

LOS LUNAS — A house fire deemed suspicious has claimed the lives of two individuals in Los Lunas. The fire, reported around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, occurred on Santistevan Court off Carson Drive.

Multiple agencies responded, with Los Lunas Police arriving first, followed by firefighters from Los Lunas, Valencia County, and Peralta. As confirmed by the sources news-bulletin.

The blaze engulfed the east side of the mobile home, destroying the back bedroom and hallway. The victims were identified as 47-year-old Rosemarie Alvarez and a 68-year-old man, whose name has not been released pending next-of-kin notification.

Los Lunas Police Special Investigations Lt. Nikki DeAnda confirmed the fire is being investigated as a potential homicide due to suspicious circumstances, suggesting an element of crime. “It’s safe to say it is an arson investigation,” DeAnda stated.

A third resident, who was not home at the time, rented two bedrooms to the deceased couple.

Three small dogs were rescued from the blaze and are being cared for by the third resident. Thankfully, neighboring properties were not damaged.

The road was closed until 8:30 p.m. on the day of the fire, and investigators remained on the scene until after midnight.

The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to uncover the details behind the tragic event.
