Sunday night in Manhattan, a car hit multiple people, killing one and hurting at least four others, according to cops and other sources.
Law enforcement sources say the crash happened around 7:30 p.m. near the corner of East 21st Street and Third Avenue in Gramercy.
When the car hit them in a busy area, two men and two women had to go to the hospital. Sources say that a 23-year-old man in critical condition was also taken to Bellevue Hospital, but he died there from his injuries.
The driver of the car was taken into arrest at the scene, police said. Two e-bikes were smashed next to a gray sedan that had crashed onto a path.
According to the Villager, first responders worked to safely take apart the e-bike batteries so that they wouldn’t explode.
Photos of the chaotic scene show one woman on the ground being helped by paramedics into a neck brace and another woman with a hurt leg.
Paramedics were also seen moving a person on a stretcher to an ambulance. In another picture, the driver was being held by the police.
The man was in handcuffs with his head bowed, and he looked like he was crying. Sunday night, police said no charges were made about the crash.
The accident happened near 235 E. 20th St., where a police school has been turned into a shelter for migrants.
